Graphics

The graphics are amazing. There are a handful of low resolution textures in the game, but there is so much detail in very nearly everything that it’s hard not to be impressed. It’s hard to imagine a current gen game this big looking any better.

Story

The story provides ample twists and turns to satisfy any Final Fantasy fan. Final Fantasy fans will not be disappointed by the somewhat bittersweet ending. This is, by far, what the game seems to be all about.

Battle Gameplay

The battle system is fun but flawed. There are one or two glitches that happen far too often. At least there is only one monster that causes this horrible glitch.

Leveling System

The leveling system is great fun! It keeps the leveling challenging enough without making it a “grind fest”. It is remiscent of Final Fantasy X’s Sphere Grid, which is definitely not a bad thing.

Pacing and Exploration

The game is the most linear Final Fantasy to date, beating out FFX in that department. The pacing of the story and the game benefit from this linearity. It does, however, extremely limit exploration.

Continuing Playability

There are plenty of things to do after you’ve beaten the game. You can become much stronger, and there are plenty of missions to complete. It is true, however, that there really aren’t any mini games to further entertain the player.

Import Friendly?

It’s all but impossible to claim that this game is import friendly. It will play with no problems on a PS3 from another region, but the entire game is heavy on Japanese text and speech. The story is practically impossible to enjoy unless you know Japanese.
